This attractive fire-resistant shrub provides an amazing contrast in the garden with its almost black foliage. The showy pink flowers put on a wonderful display in early summer and become clusters of black fruits* in the fall (if another variety is planted in the vicinity for pollination). This elderberry is more columnar than others and requires little pruning to maintain its shape. It is fast growing and can be an excellent alternative to cedars and junipers for hedging. It would provide nice summer privacy in the extended zone. *Fruits are toxic and should not be eaten.
