FireSmart BC Library Program

The FireSmart BC Library Program is the first children’s literacy program dedicated to wildfire resiliency! The FireSmart BC Library Program was designed to help children understand what it means to live with wildfires and the role they can play in mitigating the impacts of wildfires on their home and community.

This program includes both digital and physical resources. The physical program is being piloted with the Thompson-Nicola Regional Library, and the program includes materials for a colouring contest, Ember Activity Packages, and Wildfire Resiliency Literacy Kits (a collection of books and activities to explore the topic of wildfire preparedness and resiliency). The Thompson-Nicola Regional Library was chosen as the pilot due to their proximity to some of the devastating wildfires of 2021, but the opportunity to participate in this program will be expanded to all libraries in BC in 2023 through UBCM’s CRI funding.

The digital resources for this program are included below and feature a colouring sheet, bookmark, as well as storytime videos featuring Ember the FireSmart Fox!
