FireSmart in action

CastleRock Estates

I am the volunteer Chair of the CastleRock Estates’ Community Association FireSmart Committee. We are located in Invermere, BC. We have been a recognized FireSmart Canada Neighbourhood since 2017.

At last year’s AGM, our residents approved the Association to fund 100% to conduct a perimeter treatment of the privately-owned lands surrounding our neighbourhood to reduce forest fuels and provide a substantial level of protection from wildfire. A treatment plan was developed by Summit Valley Contracting which specializes in developing and implementing mitigation plans to reduce wildfire risks to communities. Six blocks of land were identified to reduce forest fuels to the FireSmart standard, extending 100 metres from the rear property lines of the community. The attached 8-minute video documents four of those blocks of land being treated; the remaining two additional blocks are to be done in the future.

We are very pleased with the outcome of the Treatment project, as well as the video documentation. We hope that you will find the video interesting. Please note that it will take a couple of minutes to download the video.
