Japanese Spurge

(aka Pachysandra terminalis)

The evergreen foliage on this fire-resistant, shrubby, groundcover makes it a nice choice for a woodland type garden. If you have a shady area beneath mature trees, this might be the groundcover for you. It is a tough plant that is very adaptable and useful for naturalizing as it tends to spread. It is deer resistant and may be used in the intermediate zone.

  • Grows from 10-20 cm in height
  • Prefers at least partial shade and even performs well in deep shade
  • Adaptable to most soils, but prefers slightly acidic pH
  • Requires relatively low maintenance and no need to fertilize
