Forsythia is a relatively low fire risk shrub that is blanketed in golden bell-shaped blooms in early spring with the leaves emerging shortly after. The flowers are excellent for cutting. The larger cultivars that get to about 1.8 – 2.4 m wide make nice privacy hedges along the outer edge of the intermediate zone. (Cultivars are not found naturally but are bred for their characteristics.) Deer are not particularly fond of this fast-growing plant.
