Nanking Cherry

(aka Prunus tomentosa)

Nanking cherry is a lovely fire-resistant shrub known for its early pinkish flower buds that open to attractive, white, fragrant blooms before the leaves emerge. The flowers become juicy, dark red berries that are excellent for pies and jellies. It is pollinator friendly, disease resistant, and useful for hedges and screening along the outer edge of the intermediate zone. (Link to HIZ graphic here)
