Sedges

(Carex spp.)

Carex in the sedge family resemble ornamental grasses and are relatively low fire risk plants. They add an interesting dimension and texture to a landscape with arching leaves that come in a variety of colours – golden yellow, coppery bronze, blueish green, bright green, and green with white margins. There are a number of species that are native to BC. Carex are generally low maintenance and may be used in the intermediate zone.
