Sea Thrift

(Armeria maritima)

This fire-resistant groundcover offers year-round interest with its attractive spring blooms and evergreen foliage. Masses of button-like flowers can range from white to lavender, pink, and dark rose – depending on the cultivar. (Cultivars are not found naturally but are bred for their characteristics.) The tufts of bluish grass like-foliage make it an interesting alternative to a typical lawn where there is only occasional foot traffic. Or, it can serve as a living mulch instead of highly flammable bark type mulches in the intermediate zone.
