This fire-resistant groundcover offers year-round interest with its shiny foliage and appealing flower spikes. Leaves can be dark green, deep purple, bronze tinged, or burgundy with creamy white – depending on the cultivar. (Cultivars are not found naturally but are bred for their characteristics.) It is versatile, adaptable, and tends to spread. This is helpful in those hard to grow places like shady woodland gardens where it can serve as a living mulch. This plant can also be a great alternative or addition to a traditional lawn. Pollinators are attracted by it, but it is not the first choice of deer. Appropriate for the intermediate zone.
• Grows from 5-20 cm in height depending on your choice of cultivar
• Performs well in partial shade and shade
• Does best in average to evenly moist soils
• Requires occasional maintenance
